SMART
invites you to attend the inaugural SMART STRATEGY SESSIONS in
Washington, D.C. from September 21-23. SMART is calling upon Sikhs
from
around the country to empower themselves to effectively educate
and lobby elected officials about issues directly affecting Sikhs
in America.
These issues include:
- Hate crimes
legislation
- Immigration
restrictions and quotas
- Racial profiling
- Workplace
Discrimination
Format
SMART has arranged for some of the most
powerful and able political lobbyists and consultants to engage in
panel discussions regarding these issues, as well as a general
discussion on effective ethno-religious lobbying and advocacy.

Tentatively
scheduled to attend are representatives from the Muslim-American
Society, Anti-Defamation League, Arab-American Institute, ACLU,
Indian American Center for Political Awareness, and the National
Immigration Forum.
After
engaging in these sessions, participants will meet with their
elected officials and their staff in pre-arranged meetings to
discuss the issues facing the Sikh American community. By bringing
together a group of dedicated and talented Sikhs, and offering
them the tools necessary to influence public policy, Sikh
Americans can make their voices heard at the local, state, and
federal levels.
